Brian Grazer and Netflix Are In Talks For Even More Arrested Development

Just a couple months after the premier and subsequent binge watching of Arrested Development Season 4, Brian Grazer and Netflix are already in talks for another season of the comedy. At the Allen & Co. Conference in Sun Valley , Idaho, Grazer, who produces the show with Imagine TV, revealed that Netflix was eager to repeat the success they had with the fourth season, saying,

We are in conversations with them to do another. They are interested in doing that.

Netflix has shown interest in a fifth season since early June, when CEO Reed Hastings talked about the company’s push for more original programming, from 5% to 15% in the next couple of years.  Along with House of Cards and Hemlock Grove, and now Orange is the New Black, which premiered yesterday on the streaming service, the new season of Arrested Development served as an important part of this initiative, with a preexisting fan base and 7 years of hope and speculation for support. Of a new season of Arrested Development, Hasting stated with an interview with CNBC in June,

If the talent were willing to do more … I’m sure we would be willing.

With Grazer involved in talks for another season, it does seem as if “the talent,” on the production side at least, is interested in another season, and the many actors who make up the Bluth family have always been enthusiastic about the show before. However, a season 5 for the show is very different from the fourth season, if for no other reason than because season 4 was so hyped and anticipated for so long. Many fans suggested there might be a movie after seeing the fourth season, but with, potentially, another season on the horizon, it seems that Grazer, Ron Howard, and the cast may have a lot more to work with. The fourth season introduced an unusual format, with episodes intertwining but each focused on a different character, but not everyone was satisfied, and even the producers seemed to change their minds about how the new episodes should be viewed. With another season, the Netflix platform may be more familiar to the Arrested Development team, so it is possible that we could even see an improvement from the most recent season.  For now though, we just have to hope that more Arrested Development isn’t a huge mistake, and have confidence that the show will maintain it’s beloved status as it stretches into more seasons than fans at first though possible.

If the new season does get off the ground, it would certainly allow us to see the conclusions of some loose ends from last season. Lucille 2’s disappearance and the bloody stair car certainly piqued my curiosity, as did the prospect of seeing George Michael’s chicken dance.
