It’s a sad day for Muppet fans. On her Twitter feed today, Miss Piggy made the above statement confirming that she and Kermit the Frog are no longer a couple. Thankfully, they remain committed to The Muppets, which I know we’re all looking forward to. Then again, watching them interact on television knowing that their love is no longer there will likely cause tears.

Then again, saddened though we are by this news, perhaps this is the best thing for our favorite pig. For years, Miss Piggy – loud, brash, karate-chopping feminist though she is – has always been seen as Kermit’s “love interest.” Now, on the precipice of their new show together, Miss Piggy can finally be seen on her own terms! A pig with a Room of Her Own. And a Book Deal of Her Own. And possibly a solo movie career?

What do you think of the conscious uncoupling of one of entertainment’s great couples?
