There’s a Heck of a Lot of Adele in Her New Video for “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”

So much shade.

‘Round these parts, we love Adele, so you better believe we’re pretty thoroughly enjoying this new music video for her song, “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”. It’s pretty trippy in that it uses some really neat-looking video effects to layer ever-increasingly ephemeral layers of Adele over, well, Adele, as she dances and sings about how she’s totally over her former ex. The song itself is addressed to them, as I’m sure you can tell, and it’s definitely one of those side-eye casting, shade-throwing, smile and a wave kind of tracks that you’d totally post as a subtweet or untagged Facebook post.

What’s also neat about this video is that it’s got Adele in something that isn’t an all-black or dark wardrobe, proving that she can slay exes, mend broken hearts, and sing delicious “I won this breakup” anthems in anything. She and her colorful, flower-patterned dress strikingly stand out against the field of black behind her. She’s quite determined to be the bright, happy center of this universe, and friend, she totally accomplishes that while still finding a way to throw shade into someone else’s.

This song appears on her newest album, 25, which she has said would be the last album she does that’s named after her age. As she said in her carpool karaoke segment with James Corden, these albums are a snapshot of her life at the time, and in a lot of ways, she’s saying goodbye to the people and things that affected her so deeply. This song, like so many of the songs that Adele is so wickedly great at producing, is just one of the best ways to say goodbye to someone who did you wrong, and the video itself features one of the nicest ways to do that: dancing in your prettiest dress, belting out your favorite song, and just owning it.
