The newest issue of Entertainment Weekly features everything San Diego Comic-Con-related, so of course the cover has a giant picture of Tony, Steve, and Ultron looking all stoic and imposing on the cover. And hey, everybody looks pretty great! Mild spoilers for Age of Ultron to follow.
We saw a little bit of what Ultron might look like in those set photos a while back and heard some rumors about what to expect last month, but this first official look at our favorite terrifying robot of doom (sorry, GLADoS). And apparently he isn’t your average maniacal “destroy all humans just for funsies” type, either. Instead he’s just trying to solve all of Earth’s problems by removing the most problematic variable: namely, us.
“Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” Joss Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. Reportedly he was also rubbing his hands together, which I don’t doubt.
Here’s a closer look at the cover from Entertainent Weekly‘s PopWatch:
Personally I think Ultron looks a bit like a Tokusatsu villain, but in a good way. Wait, speaking of which—
—what’s—
—what’s going on over here?
I—uh… you’re welcome?
