The end of the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (finally) had us excited about the direction of the show – and the guest star list for the season two premiere is getting us even more stoked. Hayley Atwell in all the Marvel things, please! (Warning: tharr be spoilers ahead).

We left our intrepid band of newly-likeable heroes (and one serious former-hero) after the destruction of the Agency formerly known as S.H.I.E.L.D., installing Coulson as the leader of… whatever new S.H.I.E.L.D.-y thing would take its place. Here’s the official synopsis for for the second season premiere, “Shadows”:

Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources–but that’s not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?

The guest star list for the episode is expansive, but the one we’re most excited to see is Hayley Atwell, returning to the Marvel universe in her role as Agent Peggy Carter! It’s unknown as to whether she will appear as present-day old-times Peggy, or in an I-founded-S.H.I.E.L.D. flashback as awesome red-lips Peggy; but either way, I’m here for it. Peggy’s own show, Agent Carter, will start airing on ABC after the winter hiatus. And will also probably (hopefully) be fantastic.

“Shadows” will also bring us Lucy Lawless in her new role as Isabelle Hartley; George Stephanopoulos as himself (I’d prefer Anderson Cooper reprising his cover role from Black Widow #12, but oh well); Patton Oswalt as Agent Koenig; B.J. Britt as Agent Triplett; Adrian Pasdar as General Talbot; and more. Let’s hope this season starts out strong, and stays that way.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back on September 23rd, and I’m going to be recapping it right here for The Mary Sue (hooray!).
