Lindy West is one of our favorite feminist writers out there, and she’s now having her book Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman adapted into a single-camera comedy for Hulu. Even better? In the most perfect bit of casting of all time, Saturday Night Live‘s Aidy Bryant is set to star as the TV version of West. The show is only in development, but I already can’t wait!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, West teamed up with Ali Rushfield and Bryant to craft the pilot script for Hulu, and will be “the story of a fat young woman who wants to change her life, but not her body.”
The show will be executive produced by Elizabeth Banks, who optioned Shrill back in December 2016. Lorne Michaels, SNL producer extraordinaire, is also in the mix, as his production company, Broadway Video, will also be producing with Andrew Singer executive producing on behalf of that company.
Bryant has been an amazing presence on Saturday Night Live, as well as a quality “funny best friend” type in films. I’m thrilled that she is finally being given the perfect vehicle in which to showcase her comedic talent as a leading lady. It’s about damn time. And with West herself taking on some of the writing duties on the show, and such a powerhouse producing team, I already know that this show is going to be big.
