In a clip for an upcoming episode of It’s Not You, It’s Men–a show that airs on OWN, self-identifying former slut-shamer Amber Rose had to explain the rule of consent to Tyrese Gibson and Rev. Run, who didn’t quite seem to understand why it’s not okay for them to freely touch a woman in a club if she’s dressed provocatively. Rose quickly shot down the assumption and even took it a step further, emphasizing that even if a woman has nothing on, her right to consent is still important:
If I’m laying down with a man–butt-naked–and his condom is on, and I say, ‘You know what? No. I don’t want to do this. I changed my mind,’ that means no. That means f—ing no. That’s it… It doesn’t matter how far I take it or what I have on–when I say no, it means no.
Rose added that she wasn’t personally irritated with either Tyrese or Rev. Run, citing that “society teaches us” to have that slut-shaming mindset–but when a woman is dressing for herself or for a night out with her friends, it’s definitely not an unwritten invitation for inappropriate contact from anyone.
