Amber Rose, who’s very outspoken about uplifting and empowering women, spoke at the Amber Rose Slut Walk about her experiences with slut-shaming. She begins with an experience with spin-the-bottle at 14, where a boy sets up a situation to make it look like the two of them had a sexual encounter (although Rose was still a virgin), making her the subject of ridicule and bullying at school.

She then goes on to talk about Kanye West, who claimed he had to take “30 showers” after being with Rose and Wiz Khalifa who wrote the lyric “I fell in love with a stripper, but I fell out of love quicker” about their marriage. Rose talks about how these men, one of whom she has a son with, slut-shamed her publicly and it lead to other people shaming her as a stripper or a gold-digger.

Although Rose cries, and some media, like the one above, frames it as her “breaking down” over the two men, her speech is really about empowering women who have “been through shit.” She ends with saying that she’s forgiven these men to get rid of the negativity in her life and wants to use Slut Walk as a means to bring women together as “positive role models for each other.”

What did you think about Rose’s speech?
