Was there ever any doubt? As of yesterday, floppy-haired Peter Parker Andrew Garfield has officially signed on star in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. Also announced is the return of director Marc Webb, which was in doubt due to Webb being contractually obligated to direct a film for Fox. But all that’s been worked out (dare we say… untangled?) now.

Yet to officially sign on is Emma Stone, but there’s no reason to get anxious about Ms. Stacy just yet—she’s said to be in the final stages of negotiations and is fully expected to return in the Spidey sequel.

The film, which has a release date (May 2, 2014) but no title quite yet, will be written by franchise newbies Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers) and Jeff Pinkner (“and” vs “&”—very important when discussing screenwriting credits) and, like The Amazing Spider-Man, is based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt (who, according to IMDB, is a distant cousin of Anderson Cooper. Huh.) Hopefully the fresh blood will make the story more coherent than it was last time.
