Anna Kendrick is kind of a nerd, and I am loving it. Not only has the actress appeared in a live-action trailer for Star Wars Battlefront, her Twitter feed is a perfect and ongoing example of all the things she geeks out over on a regular basis. She’s been tapped for a ton of films lately, and so it only makes sense that she needs to take on a role in a superhero franchise, right?
In an interview with Net-a-Porter, Kendrick praised friend and former co-star Ryan Reynolds for finally getting a movie like Deadpool made: “He worked for so many years to get that film made because it’s a character that was inside of him.” The question, however, eventually turned to asking Kendrick whether she’d be interested in assuming the guise of a superhero character:
My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!
Now, we as loyal Squirrel Girl fans know she’s more than just a half squirrel–she kicks butts and eats nuts!–but the role of Doreen Green has to be accompanied by that mandatory goofy, witty humor. Kendrick has definitely proven her comedy chops time and again; couldn’t you just picture her talking to her BFF Tippy-Toe? Any Squirrel Girl adaptation is likely still a long ways off, so that leaves Kendrick with plenty of time to read all the comics.
