The franchise we all thought was done but insists on coming back for another film is bringing in some reinforcements. Despite a lackluster turnout for 2015’s Terminator Genisys starring Jason Clarke as John Conner, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese and Emilia Clarke as Sarah, Terminator lives to see another day and Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed that he will also return.
“It is back,” he told Screen International at the Cannes Film Festival. According to Empire, he also revealed that he’s already met with director James Cameron and had conversations about this new film. “It is moving forward. He has some good ideas of how to continue with the franchise. I will be in the movie.”
I would have been on board for this had the previous film not been so bad and had his character in particular not felt so…obsolete. Then again, Cameron wasn’t involved with that one and if anyone knows how to make a good film in the franchise, it’s him. Hey, this might turn out to be decent after all.
One thing to keep in mind is how large Cameron’s involvement will be considering he’s preoccupied with those Avatar sequels which are taking forever to get off the ground. (Things are moving along now that we have new release dates and plans to begin shooting this fall). He’ll only be producing and Deadpool’s Tim Miller is slated to direct. Paramount previously announced they had canceled all plans for new Terminator films but have obviously developed a change of heart.
With Cameron back on board in some capacity and Miller at the helm, could this mean a good film is headed our way? What are your thoughts on this?
