Earlier this year we were hype to learn that Mattel would be honoring Selma director Ava Duvernay by including a one-of-a-kind doll of her in their “Sheroes” line alongside Eva Chen, Trisha Yearwood, Emmy Rossum, Kristin Chenoweth, and Sydney Keiser. Although the Sheroes dolls weren’t intended to be available to the public, DuVernay and Mattel announced yesterday that, due to a high volume of requests, the Ava Barbie will be available for purchase starting today.
Tomorrow this #AvaBarbie goes on sale for Christmas because enough folks asked @Mattel to do so. Wild + wonderful. https://t.co/louahFZwjQ

Proceeds from the doll will go to support ColorofChange, an advocacy group that strengthens the political voice of Black Americans, and Witness.org, a nonprofit that educates the public about documenting human rights violations. The Ava Barbie is available for purchase now over on TheBarbieCollection.com.
Update: BarbieCollection.com reportedly sold out in seventeen minutes, but additional dolls may be available on Amazon.
Sold out on Barbie collection, I’m told. More available at Amazon. What the hell is going on? #bananas #nuts #whoa https://t.co/xNdWlav3uf
