Sometimes, we can go a bit too far picking apart genre movies for inaccuracies, but this is pretty glaring. At least, it seems that way, but maybe there’s more going on here than we can see at first glance.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, Superman appears unable to see through Batman’s smoke bomb in the clip. Honestly, I highly doubt Zack Snyder and everyone else working on Batman v Superman suddenly forgot that the Man of Steel has X-ray vision. Either Supes just doesn’t see Batman as enough of a threat to have bothered using it before pursuing his foe, or more likely, his powers are failing him a bit.
After all, we’ve already seen ol’ Batfleck blocking one of Superman’s punches in a trailer, so it’s safe to say (besides the fact that it’s a necessary conceit to having the two in a fist fight at all) that there’s going to be some kryptonite involved here. Based on Clark’s confidence, I’d say this scene takes place as his powers are slowly eroding but before he realizes what’s happening to him.
The clip was shown on Jimmy Kimmel Live’s post-Oscars show last night, where we also got this “deleted scene” that pretty much relies on the age-old joke that it’s absurd that no one recognizes Clark Kent as Superman (starting at 3:00, though it’s worth it if only for a guest appearance by an alternate Batman):
What do you think, friends?
