Disney: We told you to hire this guy. How could anyone’s audition tape possibly have trumped this? Or this? At least give the guy a cameo, Disney!

According to various reports, Disney’s upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast reboot (you know, the one written by the Perks of Being a Wallflower guy and possibly inspired by Guillermo del Toro) may officially have its Beast and Gaston to Emma Watson’s Belle.

ScreenRant writes that Luke Evans (The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Dracula Untold) will star as the superlative MRA; considering Evans got his start performing in musicals in London’s West End, his casting seems like another hint that the live-action movie might incorporate some of the classic songs from its animated predecessor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens is in negotiations to play The Beast (as much as I would have loved to see Ryan Gosling in the role, I think he might make a better Lumière, anyway).

What do you think of the (so far very British) cast? Stevens’ casting is especially exciting to me, if only because he seems like a slightly different physical type than usually plays the Beast (Ron Perlman’s muscular portrayal definitely set a precedent). Any thoughts on what actors you’d like to see in the leftover roles?
