It's elementary, my dear Watson.

Utter the name Benedict Cumberbatch and it’s almost a sure bet that anyone who recognizes it will automatically link it BBC’s Sherlock. His portrayal of the brilliantly arrogant detective has earned him the adoration of Tumblr users the world over and it looks like his fanbase will expand once Marvel’s Doctor Strange hits theaters in November.

In a new featurette uploaded by the comic book giant, Cumberbatch discusses his turn as the titular character and uses some familiar phrasing. “Dr. Strange is incredibly arrogant, brilliant, sort of extraordinary … and his need to control fate, to control destiny and in particular, death, has brought him to the high of his profession as a neurosurgeon,” he said.

In that respect, Sherlock’s brilliance and arrogance has made him the premier consulting detective (despite being the only one, really) so it’s easy to see the similarities between the two. If only his Mind Palace was an actual alternate universe and not some fabricated thinking space in his head. The scene in “His Last Vow” which he is shot and enters said palace before waking up on a gurney would be even trippier with the added element.  But maybe this is just my Mind Palace getting the best of me.

Dr. Strange, on the other hand, doesn’t have a head cave to sort out traumatic events and instead, must come to terms with inter-dimensional realities that also come with some very serious threats. After injuring his hands in a horrific car accident, he takes on a new purpose as protector of our world under the mantle of the Sorcerer Supreme. Weirdness ensues.

Catch Cumberbatch alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Benedict Wong and Mads Mikkelsen when Doctor Strange is released on November 4.
