To most people of our generation, Birdman is that guy named Harvey who used to practice law late nights on Adult Swim. He’s actually a Hana Barbara-created superhero from the late ’60s who never quite found his footing as a character — you know, until he got his attorney license. And now he’s (sort of) getting a movie.
In actuality, the film is about an actor — played, ironically, by Batman’s Michael Keaton — who once depicted the superhero in a blockbuster movie and is now trying to make a comeback by starrring in a Broadway play. The film also stars Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk), Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man), Zach Galiafinakis (who has never been in a superhero movie, but he did play a voice in G-Force), Amy Ryan (The Office), and Andrea Risenbough (Never Let Me Go). Oh, and it’s being directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, who did 21 Grams. So it’s gonna be pretty great.
The biggest thing we can’t get over? You don’t see it in the trailer that often, but the Birdman costume is a spot-on rendition of a gritty comic-to-movie outfit. Color me impressed.
