As the casting for the upcoming Birds of Prey is released, I find myself getting more and more invested in this upcoming project. It’s already exceeded most of my expectations and now that it’s finally found its Cassandra Cain, I am excited all over again!
According to Variety, newcomer Ella Jay Basco will play the role of Cassandra Cain, the niece of forever favorite Dante Basco, who has made guest appearances on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Veep and Superior Donuts. This is an awesome opportunity and I’m so glad that Cathy Yan is helming this project and that it will be bringing an opportunity for a young Asian actress to just be amazing. Plus, as I’ve mentioned before, Cassandra Cain is a badass at a young age so if she gets her Hit-Girl moment to just go to town with carnage I am here for it.

In the movie, apparently, Harley Quinn, Huntress, and Black Canary team up to protect Cain’s character when she comes across a diamond belonging to McGregor’s Black Mask, who is a massive leader in the criminal underworld. Some people are wondering why they don’t just make Cassandra older instead of having her as a child and to that I say … let’s just see where it goes. We still have plenty of adult bad-asses in the cast so let’s have a crime-fighting kid too.
