Black Panther has been breaking records left and right, and today there’s word that Marvel’s most successful film yet has broken a new one, replacing Titanic as the third top-grossing film of all-time in the United States.
Finishing out last weekend with an astounding $659.3 million (and still climbing), it has now beaten out Titanic, which has a lifetime gross of $659.5 million. Meanwhile, it’s in the Number 10 spot worldwide, currently sitting at $1.29 billion internationally, and again, still climbing.
And they say people of color won’t sell overseas. (Doesn’t Hollywood know that people of color are the majority in other places?)
Black Panther now gives Disney two of the three top-grossing films in the U.S., with Star Wars: The Force Awakens still sitting in the top spot with $936.7 million. It’s also taken away one of James Cameron’s two contributions to the Top Three, leaving only Avatar in second place with $760.5 million.
A little over $100 million to take the Number Two spot? You got this, Black Panther. Get it.
