Jurassic World received some amount of criticism when it came out for the film’s treatment of women, with many fixating on a specific scene where Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire runs from a T-Rex in stiletto heels rather than a more practical choice (or even ditching them altogether). Director Colin Trevorrow, who insisted on putting Claire in heels in Jurassic World, tweeted a photo this morning of some nice brown boots and tagged Howard. Character development!
It seems the heels have served their purpose and just as Howard promised, her Jurassic World character will get to swap the stilettos for a more comfortable alternative. I also would have been fine if Trevorrow went in the other direction and just put every character in stilettos, but this is fine. Some of them have slight heels, but all in all it looks like Claire will stay close to the ground. And they’re pretty cute too!
Currently, we know that the sequel will be “darker, scarier” and deal with contemporary issues of militarization and animal treatment. Thankfully, if Claire has to do some running again she can pull herself up by her bootstraps. What do you think about Claire’s new footwear?
