Roger (Campbell River, BC)
as Sauron from Lord of the Rings
The armour is made out of 18 and 20 gauge hand-hammered steel. Painted with a flat black and accented with silver highlights and fully felt lined for comforts. The mace is made out of wood for two reasons: solid steel is just too heavy to carry around, and I need to gain entry into the conventions. The helm is half steel and have bondo; full steel is just too heavy on my neck after hours of wear. The armour is fully-articulated, hand-riveted, and fully-functional. It weighs well over a hundred pounds and I made every ring of the chain mail. The gauntlets are also fully-articulated with 71 rivets in each. The process of designing and building took over a year… and yes, I made everything.
