Some lucky, lucky fans and critics had the opportunity to attend early screenings of Captain America: Civil War last night–and as of right now, the majority of the reactions to the film have been mostly positive!
Film critics tweeted their early responses to the movie after the social media embargo was lifted, and while there were a couple of quibbles with certain aspects–like pacing, or similarities drawn between the Civil War script and the one for Batman V Superman–it definitely sounds like there won’t be as significant a dividing line between critics and fans as there was with the last release of a comic book superhero movie.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is a Barry Bonds steroids hitting home-run by Marvel & Russo Brothers. And I LOVED Spider-Man in the film. LOVED.

Captain America: Civil War is a complex mystery posing a big, fun superhero film. Lots of themes and emotions. Very unexpected & VERY good.

Tom Holland’s performance as the new Spider-Man was also singled out in particular, but what really intrigues me is the fact that there are quite a few people who are saying that this is their new favorite Marvel movie–not just their new favorite Avengers movie. Overall, I think Marvel has done a better job in terms of the films that have performed well–not just critically but among fans as well–and while the rest of us still have to wait until May 6th (when the movie premieres worldwide), these early cheers are making me that much more excited to see it for myself.
