For those who were hoping a woman would be directing the upcoming Captain Marvel film, you’ll only be half disappointed.

Variety revealed that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the duo behind Mississippi Grind, have signed on to helm the film. If the Russo brothers are any indication, great things come from those who work in pairs. The two also worked on the 2006 film Half Nelson starring Ryan Gosling and also directed episodes of shows like The Affair and Billions.

As previously announced, Brie Larson will take on the titilar role with a script from Inside Out writers Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. The story will center on Air Force pilot Carol Danvers whose DNA is fused with an alien’s during an accident. As a result, she finds herself with some nifty superpowers like superhuman strength, the ability to fly and energy projection.

With a heavy female presence both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, I’m really looking forward to how this film turns out. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until 2019. Are you on board with this?
