… as will Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. According to George Lucas, that is.

(Oh, and can I just take a quick moment to say that we called it on Carrie Fisher joking about her Star Wars confirmation? Because we did.)

Carrie Fisher caused the Internet to go all a’twitter yesterday by telling an interviewer that yes, she would be in the Star Wars sequels. She then went on to say the sequel would see Leia don “the bagel buns and the bikini, because probably she has sundowners syndrome. At sundown, she thinks that she’s 20-something. And she puts it on and gets institutionalized.”

Turns out it’s not true. The bagel buns and the bikini and, yes, being in the sequels. Said Fisher’s rep to CNN:

“She was joking. Nothing has been announced.”

Of course, she could still be in the sequels. We know from Mark Hamill that Lucasfilm has expressed interest in bringing him, Fisher, and Harrison Ford back.

And that’s where this quote from George Lucas comes in. Via Bloomberg Businessweek:

Asked whether members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII and if he called them before the deal closed to keep them informed, Lucas says, “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ ” He pauses. “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then he adds: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”

Oh for the love of…

Lucasfilm, please, whatever the official announcement is, give it soon. I can’t take much more of this.

Help us, Lucasfilm. You’re our only hope.
