Also rumored to be joining the cast is Elisabeth Olsen, whom I like, but can we get Rinko Kikuchi in there too, please? And Burn Gorman and Charlie Day. Tell me they shouldn’t voice the red and white dragons. Say it to my face.

For those who haven’t been keeping up with this possible trainwreck of a series, Warners and director Guy Ritchie are doing a six-film series based on Arthurian mythology, with the first film called Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur. The only actor cast so far is Idris Elba, who will play Arthur’s mentor Sir Bedivere. Now, according to Deadline, Elba’s Pacific Rim co-star Charlie Hunnam is “in final negotiations” to play King Arthur. According to Variety, Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill (who is British) and Divergent‘s Jai Courtney also read for the role.

Variety also tells us that Elizabeth Olsen “is the frontrunner for the female lead,” whomever that ends up being. Guinevere? Morgana? Nimue?

This movie just keeps breaking down my cynical barriers about mythology movies, which I have to keep reminding myself tend to be very, very bad, whether they’re Arthurian (King Arthur, The Mists of Avalon miniseries—such wasted potential!), or my preferred Greek. Troy cut me. It cut me deep. I have to keep my defense mechanisms going, but if this series gives us Idris Elba teaching Charlie Hunnam how to cancel a medieval apocalypse, I doubt my ability to hold on.
