Clancy Brown is one of those actors who’s as prolific in the flesh as he is through voice acting alone, with credits in Bad Boys, E.R., The Shawshank Redemption, and Highlander, as well as SpongeBob Squarepants, Avatar, and the DC Animated Universe shows. Now he’ll be continuing his legacy with DC adaptations with a new role on The Flash.

If you’re of a certain age, you’re very familiar with Brown’s work as the voice of Mr. Krabs, and Long Feng, but most prominently as the go-to actor to portray Lex Luthor through Batman: The Animated Series, Superman, and the two Justice League shows, not to mention a number of Warner Bros. animated adaptions. He’ll rejoin the DC universe soon, in a live action role, that of General Wade Eiling in the CW’s The Flash.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Brown will play General Wade Eiling, also known as The General, the head of a black ops army team pursuing Plastique (Kelly Frye) in the hopes of using her as a human weapon. Described as a tall and imposing man, with “a face carved from years of duty,” Eiling is fanatically intent on protecting American interests around the world and may have ties to a central Flash character.

Eiling is something of a deep cut in DC continuity: he was created as an antagonist for the Captain Atom series in the ’80s, went on to become a minor menace the Justice League, a place which may have earned him a more prominent role in Justice League animated series, where, once Justice League-flummoxing government agency Cadmus is disbanded, he injects himself with a super serum to attempt some extra-curricular Justice League-flummoxing. Though Brown was involved in the Justice League show pretty prominently, Eiling was voiced by none other than J.K. Simmons, so in a year or so I hope the two guys can have a deep-voice off over who played the character better.

Welcome back to the DC fold, Mr. Brown, let us know how that whole… hunting down a lady who can turn things into bombs thing works out.
