Good Omens Season 1 tells the story of Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship from the creation of the world to the present day, when they learn that the antichrist has been born and the apocalypse will occur when he comes of age. Realizing that they’ve come to enjoy Earth too much to let it all be destroyed in a battle between Heaven and Hell, Aziraphale and Crowley decide to stop it from happening. When they realize that they’ve ended up monitoring the wrong boy, they have to scramble to find the actual antichrist to save the earth.

The original novel (technically titled Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter) is beloved by millions of fans. When it came out in 1990, it became an international bestseller. The novel combined the best of both authors’ writing styles, matching Terry Pratchett’s warm and irreverent sense of humor with Neil Gaiman’s sprawling imagination. The series switched up the plot a bit while remaining true to the authors’ vision for their characters, so readers were treated to some surprises as they watched the show. A huge fandom sprang up in the show’s wake, with many fans taken with the development of Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship, which Gaiman wrote for the screen with all the beats of a love story.

Season 2 will go even further beyond the source material as, according to Amazon’s press release, “Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.” The plot will be based on ideas that Gaiman and Pratchett had for a sequel that they never wrote.

Here are all the cast members we know are returning—plus some new faces!

Returning Cast Members

Michael Sheen will return as Aziraphale, the fussy, gentle-natured angel and rare book dealer. David Tennant will reprise his role as Crowley, the brash and arrogant (but secretly kind) demon.

Other confirmed returning cast members include Jon Hamm as the Archangel Gabriel, Doon Mackichan as Michael, Maggie Service as Sister Theresa Garrulous, Gloria Obianyo as Uriel, Miranda Richardson as Madame Tracy, Nina Sosanya as Mary Hodges, Mark Gatiss as Mr. Harmony, and the great Derek Jacobi as Metatron. Sadly, it looks like Benedict Cumberbatch and Francis McDormand won’t be returning to the series. They provided the voices of Satan and God, respectively, making for some truly epic voice-overs.

New Cast Members

In addition to several as-yet-unnamed characters, Season 2 will also introduce new angels: Liz Carr as Saraquael and Quelin Sepulveda as Muriel. Per Newsweek, the cast has considerably expanded:

There are a host of new faces joining the cast of Good Omens, currently in undisclosed roles. Fans will be treated to performances from Outlander’s Tim Downie, The Magicians Pete Firman, I May Destroy You’s Andi Osho, and Pirates of the Caribbean’s Alex Norton.

And according to IMDb, we’ll also be seeing Sian Philips and Shelley Conn, and we’re sure Good Omens 2 has some undisclosed cameos up its sleeve!

Good Omens Season 2 is expected to come out sometime in 2022 or 2023 on Amazon Prime.
