Jason Hayes really likes video game music — as the in-house composer for Blizzard Entertainment, it’s sort of his thing. But apparently writing for World of Warcraft, Diablo 2, and Starcraft wasn’t fulfilling enough, because now he’s got a new project where he brings professional musicians together to perform famous video game songs.
The band is called Critical Hit , and their first video, above, features a number of musicians playing a cover of the Angry Birds theme tune. Wait, but it’s actually amazing. Are we sure this has anything to do with Angry Birds, of all things?
According to the group’s about page, we can expect also expect to hear songs from World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Mario, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, Call of Duty, Halo, Skyrim, Pump It Up, Mega Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Pokémon in the near future. Hang on, Kingdom Hearts? Are we gonna get a gorgeous cover of “Simple and Clean?” Oh, man. Now we’re excited.
You can pre-order Critical Hit’s upcoming album, Critical Hits: Volume One, on their website for $14.99, or you can wait around until October 31st when it drops to snag it online. However, all the pre-ordered items will be signed by JAson Hayes himself, so if that’s something you’re into then you might want to get your act together early.
