Remember when we first reported on the news that Lethal Weapon and MacGyver would both be getting reboots? Well, turns out Fox is moving forward with at least one of those–and they’ve officially announced their first casting pick.

Damon Wayans, who began his career with a brief stint on SNL (he played a cop in one memorable skit opposite Randy Quaid) and an even longer (and legendary) run on In Living Color, has been cast in the role originated by Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon film, Roger Murtaugh. The pilot is going to be written by Matt Miller (Chuck) and directed by McG (whose first film was the Charlie’s Angels remake, so he’s definitely no stranger to those).

The official synopsis is below:

When Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.

No word on who will be co-starring with Wayans yet (or who’s been cast as Riggs), but now we know a pilot is in the works! Will you be watching?
