Fresh off the news that he and Gillian Anderson will be returning for another season of the X-Files, David Duchovny has announced he’ll also be releasing a 12-song folk-rock album on May 12th called Hell or Highwater. The above picture is unrelated, much to my dismay.
In a statement, Duchovny explained,
Making this record is a dream come true, but I never had this dream — it’s still a shock when I think about how all this music happened. What I do know is that I feel these songs represent the truest expression that I’ve ever been able to achieve and I look forward to sharing it with everyone.
In an interview with USA Today, Duchovny spoke about how his experiences as an actor have influenced Hell or Highwater:
I’m lucky enough to be able to book some really great TV spots and get exposure that a normal new artist, which is what I guess I am in this field, wouldn’t be able to get.
I’m learning what it’s like to sing with a live band, how close to be to the mic, learning about singing, period. It’s a journey of discovery for me. I hope that I get to discover certain things before the audience does, so it’s not too painful.
Can’t wait ’til May 12th for Mulder to sing his heart out? You can check out some previews for the album below (featuring lots of dancing Duchovny):
What do you guys think? I personally have a lot of opinions about Duchovny (not all of them favorable. There are ways to handle a gender-based wage discrepancy with class, sir) so I expect to be a little biased about the album, but I’m also keeping things in perspective: if David Duchovny has learned how to sing, that means we should expect at least one dorky musical number from Mulder in the new season, right?
