Hey, remember how excited everyone was at the beginning of the weekend that a Deadpool movie is finally and officially in the works? Because there’s a pretty good chance that it’s not going to be the raucous, gore-filled, obscenity-laced film you’re hoping for exactly.

The rumor comes from a podcast called Shmoes Knows, so take what they say with a grain of salt. Here’s what they say:

“I heard from the director (Tim Miller) that they finally figured out the script, and it was right before this was announced, that they figured out, and you guys are all going to hate this, that they figured out how to make it PG-13 and therefore not lose its soul – that’s a quote – of the script so they can make it.”

It’s completely understandable given how badly R-rated superhero movies have done at the box office in comparison to their PG-13 counterparts—Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy crossed the $7 billion mark last week, whereas the highest grossing R superhero film of all time, Watchmen, only just made it to $107 million.

Given the franchise potential of a character like Deadpool who, unlike the characters from Kick-Ass, already has a pretty big fanbase of younger followers, it only makes sense that they’d decide to go for a PG-13 rating. Let’s just hope that if the rumors are true, they found a way to work creatively and still keep true to the fourth-wall breaking, quip-supplying merc that we all know and love.
