Disney has just released their trailer for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, their retelling of a Christmas classic. The trailer comes just before Christmas, but the actual film doesn’t come out until November 2nd, 2018.

Directed by Lasse Hallstrom, the film stars Mackenzie Foy as Clara, who “enters the Fourth Realm to take on a tyrant called Mother Ginger”, played by Helen Mirren. The film also stars Morgan Freeman, Misty Copeland, Miranda Hart, Eugenio Derbez, Jack Whitehall, and Ellie Bamber

While the “dark side” aspect of the trailer makes it seem like a mix between the live-action Alice in Wonderland mixed with a bit of Narnia, the promise of Tchaikovsky, beautiful outfits and sets, and Misty Copeland is truly stunning. Still, it feels a bit early for a trailer considering the film doesn’t come out next year. Surely, your Christmas spirit won’t keep you excited about this movie that long?

What did you think of the trailer? Are you excited for this re-imagining?
