Continuing his attempt to make a movie in every possible genre, director and auteur Quentin Tarantino is tackling Westerns in his upcoming film Django Unchained. The first teaser for this upcoming bullet-laden revenge fest was released yesterday and it looks pretty fantastic.

Starring Jamie Foxx as the titular Django (“The ‘D’ is silent”), the movie is reported to tackle the horror’s of slavery in America with a vengeance-laden plot in the vein of other Tarantino films like Inglorious Basterds and Kill Bill (parts 1 and 2). Though most of the trailer has a wild-west setting and mindset, Tarantino said in a 2007 interview with the Daily Telegraph that Django would take the trappings of spaghetti westerns and move them to the American south. Instead of a “western” he reportedly called it a “southern.”

The movie is slated for a December release, and we’ll no doubt see more before then. However, this first glimpse is a fun ride, and has got me pretty excited to see more.
