In a CBS This Morning interview recently, John Oliver was asked if Trump would ever be invited on Last Week Tonight. Oliver announced that he had no interest in giving Trump another platform to share the GOP candidate’s already well-known views, saying, “I don’t really care about him.”
Oliver’s decision to just ignore Trump is admirable considering Trump’s terribleness almost guarantees high ratings; the Human Disaster has already appeared on Colbert and is scheduled to host Saturday Night Live next week.
Given the attention he’s receiving from other late night shows, it maybe shouldn’t be surprising that Trump is claiming Oliver wanted him as well:
.@thehill John Oliver had his people call to ask me to be on his very boring and low rated show. I said “NO THANKS” Waste of time & energy!

The Last Week Tonight team had a very different account of events:
A couple of points… 1. Yes, we have a boring show. 2. At no point did we invite Donald Trump to appear on it. https://t.co/qjpg9FLb0V

What do you think of Trump’s appearances on shows like Saturday Night Live, friends? Do you think giving Trump a platform like that will make potential fans more wary of his failings, or simply more accustomed to them?
