The nominees for the 2016 Eisner Awards were announced earlier today, and lots of rad ladies in comics are being recognized for their work. This year’s nominees include TMS faves like Fresh Romance, Bitch Planet, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, and Step Aside, Pops!, and Comics Beat points out that the list features a record number of nominations for female creators—61, up from 44 last year. Women are represented in 27 out of the 33 categories, and 7 categories feature more female creators than men.
It might seem silly to focus on nominee demographics so extensively, but considering how frequently women in comics aren’t recognized for their work, it’s exciting to see the Eisner Awards continuing to buck that trend. You can see the full list of nominees below:
