The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper went on Conan Tuesday, where Conan O’Brien mentioned that she would be great in a horror film. “You’re very pretty and wholesome and you look like you’d be really good at, like, ‘Oh my god, there’s a monster!'” he says.
Kemper then points out that she was actually director, props master, line producer, and lead of a little-known movie called The Man Under the Stairs, which she made with her friend and little sister when their house was under construction and the stairs were exposed. Dun dun dunn.
We get a look at the short film, in which Kemper, armed with an Earth Day t-shirt and moccasins walks down a flight of stairs only to discover there’s—wait for it—a man underneath played by her 8-year-old sister. And he’s no, Harry Potter. This is a mean man under the stairs. Despite her protest that, “I was giving it way too much! There was no restraint!” I think her delivery of the last line was fantastic! Someone put Ellie Kemper in a horror film, stat.
The two also talked about her pregnancy cravings for Ben and Jerry’s (as well as a great flavor pitch) and wrinkles.
