Considering the role of Sweeney Todd‘s Mrs. Lovett was originated by Angela Lansbury, Emma Thompson had metaphorically big shoes to fill when she played the grotesque pie-peddler at Lincoln Center last March. But judging from clips released by PBS in anticipation of this Friday’s broadcast of the New York Philharmonic-accompanied show, the actress’ cannibal game was on point.
