TMS is lucky enough to have gotten an exciting, exclusive announcement from BOOM! Studios about their next big upcoming title. Curious? Check out the teaser image below!
Sci-fi writer, Delilah S. Dawson and artist Ashley A. Woods are teaming up on a new book from BOOM! coming in January! What book? Well … we don’t know! This is the most teasingest of all teasers! What we do know is that, while the art will presumably be handled by Woods, the gorgeous sliver of art that we see here was done by Elsa Charretier (The Unstoppable Wasp).
So, is what we’re seeing here a sliver of a variant cover? A special piece of interior artwork? We don’t know that either!
Here’s what we do know: Dawson has made a name for herself all over genre fiction, from sci-fi, to fantasy, to YA, and even to erotica (as Ava Lovelace). You may know her as the author of Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon, which is a Star Wars tie-in title in the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens series. Meanwhile, Ashley A. Woods is best known for her gorgeous art on Amandla Stenberg and Sebastian A. Jones’ NIOBE: She Is Life, though she has a long history of self-published comics before that.
Both of these creators seem to travel in very geeky circles and seem to favor sci-fi and fantasy over other kinds of storytelling. So, it makes sense that the teaser image above features what looks like a woman holding up a sword. For a split second, the gem in the sword and the teensiest glimpse of light brown/blond hair reminded me of She-Ra, and I briefly rejoiced in the idea of a She-Ra book being done by an all-female creative team. But then I was all “that’s not what She-Ra’s sword looks like! And also, what’s with the glimpses of feathers? Is she an angel? What’s going on?”
Guess we’ll have to wait until January to find out! We’ll keep you posted as BOOM! provides us with more info!
