Lion tells the story of Saroo, a five-year-old who finds himself separated from his brother and then trapped on a train headed somewhere he does not know. Unable to find his hometown, he is sent to an orphanage and later adopted by an Australian couple. 20 years later, he finds his childhood home with the help of Google Maps and is reunited with his family.
It’s based on a true story, which the real-life Saroo explains in the clip above. Sadly, his brother died that night but his mother and sister are alive and well.
In the film, he’s played by newcomer Sunny Pawar and Dev Patel as the adult Saroo, while Nicole Kidman and David Wenham portray his adoptive parents John and Sue Brierley. The movie was nominated for six Oscars and is based on Saroo’s book, A Long Way Home.
Lion heads to Digital HD on March 28, and to Blu-ray and DVD on April 11. Have you seen it yet?
