Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray, most known for films like Law Abiding Citizen, The Negotiator, and an impressive resume of music videos, has a new project on the horizon: a sci-fi film.
Gray, who’s a big fan of Cosmos and spent time in between shooting Straight Outta Compton to stare at Pluto, says:
I’m really, really heavily researching a sci-fi movie. I have a huge telescope and I stargaze. I marvel when I study the moon and think of stories about colonizing Mars.
He even jokingly suggested a project starring Ice Cube, with whom the director has collaborated with in films like Straight Outta Compton, Friday and the music video for It Was a Good Day.
How about Are We There Yet? The Mars Edition, with Neil deGrasse Tyson as a guest star.
I’d be up for a roadtrip movie where Ice Cube and Tyson blast off in space, how about you?
