Right now, Obi-Wan Kenobi is an exciting entry into the Disney world of Star Wars. The Disney+ series bringing Ewan McGregor back as the famed Jedi with Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader should be enough to bring any fan back into the fold. But with each new step closer to its May release date, we’re learning more and more about who could show up and what new characters we might get to meet.
But focusing on those returning, there are plenty of options that would make sense for both the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi and also when the series itself is taking place in the greater Star Wars timeline. When it comes to characters we know and love and want to see again, the prequels are full of them, and as ComicBook.com wrote, we could see one that has me screaming.
I’m talking about Jimmy Smits coming back as Bail Organa in Obi-Wan Kenobi. ComicBook.com said that insider sources have spotted Smits on set. Whether or not that true, we aren’t sure about, but still, the excitement is there, and it would make sense to have him back in the series when we know he’s still working with the Rebels when it comes to Mon Mothma.
Smits has come back before
One of my favorite Disney-era Star Wars projects was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. There, we discovered that Bail Organa was still working with the Rebellion to try to take down the Empire, an energy and dedication that he clearly passed on to Leia Organa, and while we know that Bail Organa met his match when Darth Vader destroyed Alderaan, he’s still a character who means a lot to fans.
Seeing him on Obi-Wan Kenobi would make sense given his connection to Obi-Wan in the prequels, especially in Revenge of the Sith and how the two interacted with each other at the end of the trilogy. It could mean that we also get to see a young Leia, but if Bail is going to Tatooine to see Obi-Wan, I don’t think he’d bring Leia with him with Luke so close by. But having any sort of Bail Organa and Jimmy Smits content would be a gift to us all.
What does Obi-Wan Kenobi hold for fans?
The show has been a long time coming. We’ve patiently waited nearly twenty years to see Ewan McGregor back in Obi-Wan’s robes, and if that means seeing old friends like Bail Organa and Anakin Skywalker, then all the better! This show is going to hold an emotional place in the heart of fans just because of who is in the series. It means a lot to us, and knowing that we could keep seeing other favorites from the prequels is just that much more exciting. Plus, any time you put Jimmy Smits in something, I am instantly onboard just because I trust and love Jimmy Smits very much.
I am preparing myself for the emotional wreck that Obi-Wan Kenobi will turn me into, and that’s fine. This is fine.
