Now this is an interesting change of pace for a fashion line. French fashion house Louis Vuitton has announced the model to be featured in their latest spring/summer 2016–and curiously enough, it’s not a real person. It’s actually a fictional character–a character from a video game, more specifically. Lightning, a character from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series, who was originally created to feature as a strong female protagonist in the game, is now the new face of Louis Vuitton.

Nicolas Ghesquiere, Louis Vuitton’s creative director, shared a couple photos and a video on his Instagram account announcing the news:

Reality and fantasy become one : lightning a genuine heroine in the new @louisvuitton series 4 ad campaign

Louis Vuitton collaborated with Square Enix on the images and footage for the campaign, which portrays Lightning in various poses modeling the clothes that were actually featured in the Louis Vuitton fashion show at Paris Fashion Week in fall 2015. While initial fan responses on social media were a bit mixed, most people did confess curiosity over wanting to see more–and it’s definitely an interesting way for two industries to work together.

Coincidentally, this is not the first time video game characters have assisted in modeling fashion–and it’s not the first time Square Enix has collaborated with a design house or brand. This could be the beginning of a pretty interesting trend–what are your thoughts on it?
