Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Fleabag

‘Fleabag’ Creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge Has a New Series Coming

Fleabag fans, get excited. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is heading back to Amazon with a new series! Right now, details are unknown, as well as whether it’s a comedy or drama, but knowing Waller-Bridge, we can assume it is going to break us all either way. The talented writer and performer had been working on an adaptation of Mr. & Mrs. Smith with her Solo: A Star Wars Story costar Donald Glover but left the series in 2021. She’s also set to star in the upcoming fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise opposite Harrison Ford.

The confirmation of the new series came from Variety, and while we don’t know that much about it, it is exciting for fans of Waller-Bridge. She is a masterclass in marrying her writing ability with characters that she herself can explore. There’s no news yet as to whether Waller-Bridge will star in the series or write for it (or both). Previously, she’s worked on the Bond film No Time to Die and Killing Eve as a writer.

The brilliance of Fleabag

Fleabag was a show that came to us all and emotionally destroyed us. Following the story of Fleabag (Waller-Bridge) as she unpacks the pain of losing her best friend and her own hand in her friend’s death, the series showed us a woman who was a complete mess, trying to understand her life and how to be a better person. She struggled, and we understood where she was coming from and the choices she would make. Not having more of Fleabag’s disaster in our lives felt like a punch of the gut when it ended.

When Waller-Bridge told the world that she didn’t see a season three of Fleabag, it broke our hearts, and we had just witnessed Fleabag’s heartbreak with the Hot Priest (played by Andrew Scott), so we were hoping there’d be a third season to explore her pain and their relationship further.

What we’re getting now is a different show, but we’ve got a lot of faith in Waller-Bridge based on what she’s given us in previous projects. Prior to Fleabag, she gave us a show called Crashing that also seemed like the perfect look into the messy lifestyle many of us have embraced, and so the hope now is that her new show gives us another icon to look up to.

Waller-Bridge is brilliant, and Amazon trusting her with another series gives me hope for what the show could be—even if I’m still crying over the Hot Priest telling Fleabag “It’ll pass” when she told him that she loved him. So … Phoebe Waller-Bridge, can you at least bring Andrew Scott into this new show at some point?
