Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s trailer showed us plenty of familiar faces and places. First off, we are introduced to Ewan McGregor, making his return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the harsh deserts of Tatooine. The sandy world of Tatooine is one of the most easily recognizable locations in the Star Wars franchise and has strong ties to Anakin Skywalker and his relatives.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will see Obi-Wan’s exile in Tatooine as he watches over a young Luke Skywalker. However, the rest of the trailer makes it clear that the real adventure takes place elsewhere. While Obi-Wan is shaken from the corruption of his former friend and apprentice, Anakin, the fight is not quite over. Now, Obi-Wan will have to deal with a very large threat—the Inquisitors.
The Inquisitors belong to the Imperial Inquisitor Program and are tasked with hunting down any remaining Jedi following Order 66. To fully capture the brutality of these Jedi hunters, Obi-Wan Kenobi is going to have to take us to a pretty dark location.
What is Fortress Inquisitorius?
Around the 0:40 mark of the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, we see an Inquisitor’s ship approaching a dark fortress surrounded by water. This has been confirmed to be the Fortress Inquisitorius, making it the Fortress’ live-action debut. The Fortress Inquisitorius was introduced in the video game Jedi: Fallen Order. It’s the headquarters for the Inquisitors and also a place where they can commit their egregious acts covertly.
The Fortress Inquisitorius is an underwater stronghold located on the moon Nur. The headquarters were kept hidden from many to keep up the Empire’s image of peace. However, in reality, Jedi were being captured and taken to this secret underwater Fortress, allowing the Inquisitors to keep their brutality hidden.
Fortress Inquisitorius is a place of deep evil that was utilized for imprisoning and torturing Jedi following Order 66. Some of these Jedi were tortured to the point that they turned to the dark side and became Inquisitors themselves. Others were tortured until they cracked and disclosed the locations of other Jedi that the Inquisitors were seeking.
Fortress Inquisitorius in Obi-Wan Kenobi
From the trailer, it appears that Obi-Wan Kenobi is largely maintaining Fallen Order‘s design of Fortress Inquisitorius. For example, only the upper portion of the Fortress is visible, while the rest remains underwater. Additionally, we also get a brief look inside the Fortress Inquisitorius and it looks identical to the meeting room in Fallen Order. This room has a table in the middle of the room, is guarded by two Stormtroopers, and has windows that look out into the underwater scenery.
With Obi-Wan Kenobi holding closely to the Fallen Order‘s design of Fortress Inquisitorius, it is likely the show will also maintain the purpose of the Fortress. This means there will be a lot more going on in that building than just meetings. It also means that the Inquisitors—whom Obi-Wan faces—could very well be former Jedi and friends of his. Obi-Wan Kenobi featuring this location warns of a dark storyline—as this Fortress truly encompasses the Inquisitors’ brutality.
