20th Century Fox has seen the success that goes along with making a movie based on a creative children’s toy and decided that they can replicate it. They’re hard at work on a claymation Play-Doh movie!

Deadline reports that Paul Feig—who you may remember as the guy who’s bringing us the new Ghostbusters—is in negotiations with Fox to direct Hasbro’s Play-Doh and probably all of its not-at-all-dick-shaped accessories on the big screen, with Jason Micallef on the script. It’s unclear at this point how they intend to differentiate the Play-Doh movie from literally an entire existing style of stop motion animation, but who cares? BRANDING!

I can’t imagine this going well at all. Yes, there is some parallel between this and The LEGO Movie, but LEGO had already pretty consistently translated itself into quality video game crossovers with existing fictional characters before that movie was made. Kids regularly spend—or bug their parents into spending—absurd amounts of money on complicated LEGO sets, and Play-Doh isn’t exactly in that same league. Kids play with it, but they don’t obsess over it like LEGO.

But hey, it’s happening, so we might as well get used to it, and Feig’s involvement could very well result in an unexpected gem. Maybe it can be about some kind of crazy Rube Goldberg machine involving all the accessories? That would be cool, at least. I can’t wait to see Play-Doh Melissa McCarthy.
