Just over twenty-four hours ago, I asked the Internet to give me a mash-up of the audio from Godzilla trailer with clips from the Disney movie Frozen. Sadly, the Internet did not oblige, but one awesome video editor got us the next best thing: a trailer for the film that’s rife with horror tropes.
As awesome as the trailer is, one of the comments on the Youtube video actually got us thinking (and not about how horrible Youtube comments are, if you can believe it): there are just not enough animated horror films in the Western market. Sure, as a regional genre, anime’s done a lot of awesomely messed up stuff, and every once in a while, Tim Burton cranks out something aesthetically spooky, but what else is there that truly encapsulates the horror genre? Coraline, maybe? The Adventures of Mark Train? The Black Cauldron? You’d think there’d be more than that.
What do you all think? Anybody got any that we’re missing? (Feel free to suggest some really good anime too, while you’re at it, because we could all use some new stuff to watch.)
