Disney must have really enjoyed Emily Blunt’s performance in Into the Woods because as it turns out, she’s being tapped to play Mary Poppins in a sequel to the classic movie. Rob Marshall, the director behind Into the Woods, is also directing the sequel, so I suppose it makes sense then that he’s going to work with talent that he knows will do well.

Just like the original, this upcoming sequel will be a live action musical, except it’s set 20 years into the future. It’s very much a direct sequel, not a remake or reboot, so it’ll be interesting to see how they write Mary Poppins a new face. Longshot theory: they finally confirm that Poppins is a Time Lady, and she’s regenerated with Blunt’s face. Come on, Disney. Make my fanfic come true.
