Space Ghost Actor and Sesame Street Announcer Gary Owens Has Passed Away at 80

According to Variety, famed voice actor, disc jockey, and writer Gary Owens passed away yesterday at his home in L.A. at the age of 80.

During his long career, Owens lent his acting talents to over 3,000 cartoons (most famously voicing the titular hero on Hanna-Barbera’s Space Ghost), served as an announcer on Sesame Street since the show’s 1969 inception, and wrote for series like Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Owens, who is survived by his two sons and wife of 57 years, had been a diabetic since age 8. Donations can be made in his memory to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation.
