Look alive, internet. The first full promo for Girlboss is here, and it looks … interesting? I mean, part of me is intrigued by the rebellious girl power vibe, but the other half feels like this is Girls if it only had one lead character. But I guess I’ll have to wait until it premieres to make a final judgement.
While most adaptations tend to use the term “based on,” the Netflix series is described as being “inspired” by the book of the same name, which was written by Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso. So maybe don’t think of this as an accurate depiction of her rise to fame.
The story will center on her humble beginnings selling clothes on eBay to the meteoric rise of her fashion brand. It was created by Pitch Perfect’s Kay Cannon, who will also serve as the showrunner, and is executive produced by Charlize Theron, Laverne McKinnon, Christian Ditter and Sophia Amoruso. It stars Britt Robertson in the lead role along side Ellie Reed, Alphonso McAuley, Johnny Simmons and Dean Norris.
If the trailer is any indication, look out for a number of celebrity appearances including RuPaul and Madtv alum Nicole Sullivan. Girlboss, which will consist of 13 half-hour episodes, heads to Netflix on April 21.
