Gmail Doesn’t Want Outlook Stealing Its Thunder, So It Redesigned Your Inbox
Is inbox management that big of a problem? No, but Gmail is trying to solve it anyway. They just launched a redesign.
Is inbox management really as much of a problem as email providers seem to make it out to be? I get between 50 and 100 daily emails on the reg, and I don’t find myself struggling for a better way to manage them. Outlook just relaunched with a promise of a cleaner, easier to care for inbox, so naturally Gmail announced yesterday an inbox redesign with similar goals.
I’m really not sure there’s as much of a need for a more sorted inbox as Microsoft and Google are insisting there is. It sort of feels like the first part of an informercial where a frustrated cook just can’t seem to slice a tomato cleanly. There’s got to be a better way! Watch the new video from Gmail announcing their new tabbed inbox, and tell me if you’re actually excited to have a separate tab for “Promotions.”
Personally, I’d just like to see all the promotions, social, and honestly most of my other email go to the trash or spam folders. Let’s work on that feature, Google.

- I love that Google combined my Gmail, Drive, and Google+ storage
- Outlook has swallowed Hotmail whole, and there’s nothing you can do about it
- Outbox wants to put an end to snail mail as you know it
