Last month we got a ton of details about what we can expect from the Kingsman sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle (a title that I still maintain sounds way too much like either a Philip Pullman novel or the name of a cowboy-themed Americana restaurant). Now, Kingsman star Taron Egerton has shared a cryptic tweet that suggests Colin Firth may be reprising his role as Harry Hart for the film. (Spoiler alert for Kingsman: The Secret Service to follow.)
The first film seemed to bring Hart’s storyline to a pretty definitive conclusion—near the movie’s end, he’s shot in the face by Samuel L. Jackson’s Valentine. Casting reports for the second movie also seemed to indicate that Hart was done for, but this poster is either indicating otherwise or massively trolling us. Collider writes that director Matthew Vaughn and co-writer Jane Goldman “flirted” at one time with bringing Firth back to play Hart’s twin brother, but that theory doesn’t really fit with this poster in particular.
Personally, I’d rather not see Firth return as Hart in The Golden Circle—not because I didn’t love him in the original Kingsman, but because it’s much more exciting to me personally to see this sequel as a significant departure from the first film. I’m keeping an open mind, though; depending on how this potential reveal pans out, it could be awesome.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle will feature Merlin (Mark Strong) and Eggsy (Taron Egerton) seeking help from their allies in the United States after Kingsman HQ is attacked. In addition to Egerton and Strong, the film will star Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, and maybe, I guess, Colin Firth.
